Marine Gravity Survey Technology Symposium
On April 8, 2021, Laurel Marine, China, in conjunction with other organizations specialized in marine survey and mapping, sponsored the “2021 Marine Gravity Survey Technology Symposium” in Guang Zhou China (Figure 1). Experts in marine gravity technologies from all over China attended the symposium. The symposium covered dynamic gravimetry instrumentation, data acquisition and data processing. During the venue, Laurel introduced MGL’s newest marine gravity system: the ‘Sea III’.
Mr. Jeff Zhang, the vice president of Laurel Marine, presented a detailed history of Micro-g LaCoste’s dynamic gravimeter systems (Figure 2) and the most recent Sea III survey results.
Mr. Xiaopeng (Figure 3), a senior engineer of Laurel, presented the results from several sea trial surveys of 5 Sea III systems conducted on a range of survey vessels from 500 ton to 5,000 ton, under various sea states ranging from 3 to 4, with crossover misfit RMS from 0.23 to 0.49 mGals. He also provided a detailed description of the Sea III system and the data acquisition with Piperpro. Figure 4 is a sample from his presentation showing a comparison of two Sea III results over a survey line. The presentation demonstrated the performance of the Sea III and drew wide attention from symposium attendees (Figure 5).
